However, it is now widely grown in many parts of Asia. Like other Pleurotus species, the king oyster mushroom consumes nematodes which are parasitic. It can therefore be used as a natural pesticide. It has also been reported to have health benefits such as lowering cholesterol due to the presence of statins and lovastatins.

Pleurotus eryngii is the largest of the Pleurotus family. It has small, tan colored cap with thick meaty, white stems. Its flavor come out more when it is cooked rather than raw. It can be cultivated using organic waste, turning compost into edible mushrooms, what a deal!
